DRAWING SESSION 7- TAPESTRY

Our last session with Brian has sadly come. For this session we continued working on the Tapestry which was started in the previous session because we had all completed our individual sections for the final tapestry it was time to start bringing them all together.

To achieve a common visual aspect throughout the whole of the Tapestry we needed to add in the sky and also the Sciography this allowed for each section to have a similar trait even though it is completely different. To do this we firstly had to lay all the sections down so we could see how the Sciography would work and this also gave us a visual idea as to how the whole Tapestry would come together as one.

SCIOGRAPHY IN THE TAPESTRY

Starting the Sciography began by having a group discussion as to which tones we were going to use for it, this would allow for a more even effect throughout, we came to a decision to use a Grey and Blue marker for this effect as this would stand out and show a strong visual appearance which would give the building three dimension and also allow for some depth and perspective.

After adding the Sciography into each section I found that it brought the whole thing to life and gave it that final bit of detail which helped it just look complete, compared to the first initial drawing where there is no Sciography.

We also needed to add in a sky, which would help eliminate any blank areas. This would distract from the main focus, being the Old Post Office. The sky was done in a pale blue soft chalk pastel as this was subtle and didn’t draw attention away from the building, as well as all the detail within the separate sections. The sky helped show the initial edge for the Tapestry and gave further depth to the Tapestry as a whole, when we began to place the sections together I could really see all the hard work which we had all put in and it slowly started to come together.

Because the group was split into two we didn’t have all the sections, this meant we could not begin attaching the Tapestry together, this will have to be done in a later session and then it will be hung in either the new building once we have relocated and may even be hung in the temporary building for a short while. I’m very excited to see it as a finished design as I feel it is going to have a big visual impact and it also shows the work of our whole Interior Design group.
