ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE

WHAT IS PERSPECTIVE DRAWING? Perspective drawing is used to create three dimension within a design, in our sessions with Brian we learnt how to apply this when drawing objects and interiors. Perspective helps create a real sense to the drawing and brings it to life. Artists use it and illustrators very often for visual sketches to allow for accuracy and dimension, as well as depth.

ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE

A drawing which has only one point perspective is when it has only one vanishing point on the horizon line. One point perspective is usually used for images of roads, hallways, buildings viewed from the front. Each component of the image will end in the same vanishing point which creates one point perspective and also helps create depth.

In the session today we learnt how to draw using one point perspective more in depth. Firstly we began by understanding the basic rules of how each line would end up in the vanishing point. To do this we drew 8 shapes around a horizon line which we had marked the mid point on, once we had done this we began to connect each corner of our shape to the mid point (vanishing point). These lines showed the perspective and also allowed for us to add depth to our shapes and still allow them to follow the one point perspective rule.

CIRCLES IN PERSPETIVE

A circle in perspective is called an ellipse. The drawing of ellipses is done by rectangular perspective. By following a set of lines which you have drawn it can allow you to draw a perfect circle, however when it comes to drawing an ellipse you need to change the perspective. This is also done by following a guide of lines however they are done at a different angle.

By drawing your circles in perspective it can allow you to create a more realistic visual and it also develops your knowledge of one point perspective.

After learning the basic techniques I wanted to attempt drawing a basic room using one point perspective, I used a ruler to allow for neat lines and accuracy which would help the final outcome look more realistic. I then also attempted this freehand, however I preferred using the straight lines as it looks more professional.
