CONSTRUCTION SERIES- WALLS 1

Walls are a very important part when it comes to construction, there is a large range of different types which all have different properties and functions. Walls can be used to create a flow throughout a space, forcing you to go in one way and exit at another end, an example of this would be IKEA, their layout forces you to walk through everything they have in the shop. Many shops have a similar flow as it allows you to see things you necessarily would not have if you could go any way you wished.

INTERIOR WALLS

Interior walls create rooms, they could have insulation to dampen sound and could also be a fire wall. Fire walls are common in stair wells, corridors and kitchen walls, these are use to decrease the fire spreading, having them on stairwells allows you to exit the building and get to safety. There are a two types of walls which are used in construction and these are…

Stud Walls

  • This is an easy-to-make partition consisting of a wood framework that can take any of the finishes listed here. Studs are secured with nails or screws.

Metal Stud Wall

  • This modern variation of the stud wall uses metal channels instead of lumber studs to form the framework. Studs are secured with self-tapping screws.
